Biography
Kürşad Derinkuyu started at Ankara Science High School in 1994 and received his B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Bilkent University in 2002. He received his M.Sc. degree (ranked as 1st) from same department. Dr. Derinkuyu continued his graduate studies at Lehigh University and The University of Texas at Austin, and received his second M.Sc. degree (Management Science) in 2006 and Ph.D. degree (Operations Research and Industrial Engineering) in 2011 with 4.0 CGPAs. After graduation, he worked on Hacettepe University and University of Turkish Aeronautical Association (UTAA). He was co-founder of Logistics Management Department and Energy Markets Research Center at UTAA. Then, he joined the Energy Exchange Istanbul (EXIST) as an advisor to the CEO and found the Optimization-Algorithms Division. He is currently working at Industrial Engineering Department of TOBB University of Economics and Technology.
Dr. Derinkuyu developed software on target production planning tool of supply chain management system in AMD (Advance Micro Devices) and designed decision support systems for logistics planning of commodity transportation, yard-block-train relations, and railway maintenance in BNSF Railway. He developed forecasting and time series models for Enexis (Holland Electricity) and Aselsan (Turkish Defense) Companies. He managed European Union project called “License Exempted Electricity Generation for Investors” of TENVA/ERRA and “Turkish Day Ahead Electricity Market Software” project of EXIST. With his students, he won 3 national competitions on energy related projects. He also worked with ILBANK and several private energy companies, and wrote several "expert opinion" reports for legal conflicts between energy companies.
Some of his current works are related to Day-Ahead, Day-in, Ancillary Services and Balancing Electricity Market Designs, Natural Gas Market Design, Incentive Mechanisms for Renewable Energy, Portfolio Optimization for Electricity Generation Units and Contract Management. He is also developing AI tools for financial markets.
