Abstract: Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of a lobed mixer in a conceptual turbofan engine are performed with commercial CFD solver Star CCM+. 3D RANS simulations are completed in cold flow conditions. Lobe number and configuration are significant design parameters for mixing performance. In this paper, the effects of lobe number on mixing performance are investigated. Additionally, for a specific number of lobe chevron nail and extended lobe channel mixer is compared in terms of temperature based mixedness index. The primary and secondary stream parameters are determined by using the results of a 1D cycle analysis of a concept turbofan engine obtained from the GasTurb13 software. © 2020, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA.
