Abstract: Slow light is recently attracting attentions of many researchers [1-5]. Therefore, we propose a photonic crystal structure that shows unique spectral and temporal properties in terms of slow light. The system is a two dimensional line-defect photonic crystal waveguide with side modifications implemented as shown in Fig. 1(a). The background photonic crystal consists of cylindrical rods with radius of 0.2a (a is the lattice constant) which are placed according to the square-lattice pattern. Some of the rods that lay nearby the line-defect are enlarged to R = 0.35a with a period of Sx = 6a. © 2011 IEEE.
