Article Aile İşletmeleri İçin Bir Çatışma Yönetim Aracı: Aile Anayasası(2021) Karabacak, Hakan; Alp, Dursun AliBu çalışmada aile anayasasının çatışma yönetimine katkısının kavramsal olarak incelenmesi amaçlanmış ve bu kapsamda başlıca ikisorunun yanıtı aranmıştır: 1) Görev veya ilişki çatışmalarını yönetmek üzere aile anayasası nasıl bir içerikle tasarlanmalıdır? 2) Uygunbir içerikle tasarlandığında aile anayasası işletmenin hangi yapısal sorunlarına çözümler getirebilir? Aile anayasalarının çatışmayönetimine katkı verebilmesi için çalışma ilişkilerine, mülkiyet, gelir ve harcamalara, aile konseyine ve halef planlamasına ilişkin ilkeve kurallara yer vermesi gerektiği tespit edilmiştir. Uygun bir içerikle tasarlandığı takdirde aile anayasası nepotizmin önlenmesini, sorumluluk paylaşımlarının netleştirilmesini, güç kullanımının dengeli dağıtımını, kuşaklar arası iletişimi ve kurumsallaşmayısağlayarak çatışmaların yönetilmesine önemli katkılar sunma potansiyeline sahiptir. Aile anayasasının çatışma yönetimindeki bupotansiyelinin kullanılması, aile işletmelerinin huzurlu ve verimli çalışma ortamlarına kavuşmalarına, performanslarını artırmalarınave kuşaklar boyunca sağlıklı biçimde devamlılıklarını sağlamalarına hizmet edecektir. Bu çalışma, aile anayasasını inceleme konusuyapan çok sınırlı sayıda Türkçe çalışmadan biri, aile anayasasının çatışma yönetimindeki rolüne odaklanan ilk kavramsal çalışma olmaözelliği taşımaktadır.Article Citation - Scopus: 73Analyzing Conversion Rates in Online Hotel Booking: the Role of Customer Reviews, Recommendations and Rank Order in Search Listings(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2016-02) Cezar, Asunur; Öğüt, HulisiPurpose – The aim of this paper is to examine the impact of three main technologies on converting browsers into customers: impact of review rating (location rating and service rating), recommendation and search listings. Design/methodology/approach – This paper estimates conversion rate model parameters using a quasi-likelihood method with the Bernoulli log-likelihood function and parametric regression model based on the beta distribution. Findings – The results show that a high rank in search listings, a high number of recommendations and location rating have a significant and positive impact on conversion rates. However, service rating and star rating do not have a significant effect on conversion rate. Furthermore, room price and hotel size are negatively associated with conversion rate. It was also found that a high rank in search listings, a high number of recommendations and location rating increase online hotel bookings. Furthermore, it was found that a high number of recommendations increase the conversion rate of hotels with low ranks. Practical implications – The findings show that hotels’ location ratings are more important than both star and service ratings for the conversion of visitors into customers. Thus, hotels that are located in convenient locations can charge higher prices. The results may also help entrepreneurs who are planning to open new hotels to forecast the conversion rates and demand for specific locations. It was found that a high number of recommendations help to increase the conversion rate of hotels with low ranks. This result suggests that a high numbers of recommendations mitigate the adverse effect of a low rank in search listings on the conversion rate. Originality/value – This paper contributes to the understanding of the drivers of conversion rates in online channels for the successful implementation of hotel marketing. © 2016, Emerald Group Publishing Limited.Book Part Araştırma ve Yayın Etiği(Nobel Tıp Kitabevleri, 2023) Tarı Kasnakoğlu, Berna[No Abstract Available]Article Bir Performans Değerlendirme Yöntemi Olarak Uyum Yüzeyi Kuramı: Bankacılık Örneği(2012) Şimşek, Eray Kağan; İlter, H. In this regard, it is examined in details at which point the ownership of the shares and share ownership rights are transferred to the transferee after the shares are traded at the stock exchange as well as process for shareowners to attend the general meeting and to exercise their voting rights in the light of electronic general meeting and the state of the shares that are dematerialized and registered in the books of Central Registry Agency (MKK). It is also explained that although removing share blockage is a big step for exercising rights such as attending the general meeting and voting, present practice is not flawless at all. Main problems are the risk of shareowner list provided to the issuers being outdated since the records are kept by MKK members; the fact that some shareowners can’t attend the general meeting despite the removal of share blockage while the possibility of unauthorized persons to attend the general meeting. Suggested solutions to the said problems are also stated in this article.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 1Competitive Mobile Marketing and Its Impact on the Mobile Eco System(Association for Information Systems, 2016) Cezar, Asunur; Raghunathan, ŞrinivaşanTargeting mobile consumers is similar to traditional targeting which focuses on stationary consumers in the sense both exploit data about consumers to tailor the marketing strategy. However, factors related to mobility such as travel direction or destination play an important role in a mobile consumer's evaluation of competing products. This paper focuses on consumer targeting using such mobile data. We seek to answer the following research questions in the above context using a game theoretic model: (i) How are the price competition between sellers, seller profits, consumer surplus, and social welfare affected when one or both sellers acquire the information, and (ii) What are the sellers' incentives to acquire the information? We do the analysis for the cases when the information includes only consumer location and when it includes both location and travel direction. We find that the ratio of unit time cost to unit transportation cost, which we refer to as the propensity for instant gratification, and the type of information offered by the app - location only or location and direction - shape the competition between sellers and their incentives to acquire the information. The findings have significant implications for the players in the mobile eco system.Article Citation - Scopus: 7The Configuration and Detection Strategies for Information Security Systems(2013-05) Öğüt, HulisiIntrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) have become an important element of the Information Technology (IT) security architecture by identifying intrusions from both insiders and outsiders. However, security experts questioned the effectiveness of IDSs recently. The criticism known as Base Rate fallacy states that when IDS raises an alarm, the event is more likely to be benign rather than intrusive since the proportion of benign activity is significantly larger than that of intrusive activity in the user population. In response to too many false alarms, system security officers (SSO) either ignore alarm signals or turn off the IDS as the information provided by IDS is very skeptical. To alleviate this problem of IDSs, Ogut et al. (2008) [6] suggest that the firm may choose to wait to get additional signal and to make better decision about user type. One of the limitations of their model is that configuration point at which IDSs operate (the false negative and false positive rates) is exogenously given. However, the firm trying to minimize expected cost should also make a decision regarding the configuration level of IDSs since these probabilities are one of the determinants of future cost. Therefore, we extend Ogut et al. (2008) [6] by considering configuration and waiting time decisions jointly in this paper. We formulate the problem as dynamic programming model and illustrate the solution procedure for waiting time and configuration decision under optimal policy when cost of undetected hacker activity follows step wise function. As it is difficult to obtain waiting time and configuration decision under optimal policy, we illustrate the solution procedures for under myopic policy and focus on the characteristics of configuration decision under myopic policy. Our numerical analysis suggested that configuration decision is as important as waiting time decision to decrease the cost of operating IDS. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. In this paper, we consider both configuration and waiting time decision in order to design appropriate policies for responding signals generated by IDS. We analyze both myopic configuration policy that minimizes the expected cost in current period and optimal configuration policy that considers expected cost in the current and future periods. These policies are compared with myopic and optimal waiting time policies with fixed configuration. Our results show that myopic configuration and optimal configuration policies reduce cost significantly.Article Consumer Socialization Of Children In Low-Income Families(International Scientific Publications, 2023) Bilici, Gülcan Bengisu; Tarı Kasnakoğlu, Berna; Türe, MeltemThis study investigates whether and how children’s and their mother’s proneness to consumption would affect children’s liking for shopping in low-income families. The expectation is that children would be directly affected from their mothers’ orientation towards consumption and shopping. A survey was employed in low-income households to 126 children attending primary school and their mothers. Results imply that mothers play a direct role in shaping children’s orientation towards consumption. More specifically, children’s own consumption orientation would increase their liking for shopping. Mothers’ proneness to consumption, however, directly mediates this relationship. These results are discussed along with theoretical and practical implications.Article Covid-19 Krizinin Türkiye'deki Sektörler Üzerinde Etkileri: Borsa İstanbul Sektör Endeksleri Araştırması(2020) Tayar, Tunahan; Gümüştekin, Ezgi; Dayan, Kaan; Mandi, Emad2019 yÕlÕnÕn son d|nem?nde Ç?n'?n Vuhan kent?nde ortaya çÕkan Cov?d-19, kÕsa s rede t m d nyayÕ etk?s? altÕna almÕútÕr. Traditional estimation algorithms, such as logit, and supervised machine learning methods, which are support vector machine (SVM), probabilistic neural network (PNN), k-nearest neighbor (KNN) and decision tree (DT) algorithms, are utilized. According to previous studies, support vector machine and probabilistic neural network algorithms perform higher than traditional estimation ones in terms of the accuracy of financial information manipulation estimation. Comparative analysis is made to decide better algorithm for classification by applying all algorithms separately to the financial information manipulation dataset that is collected by skimming weekly bulletins of Capital Markets Board of Turkey and Borsa Istanbul between 2009 and 2018. Thus, it is determined which algorithms perform better in financial information manipulation by looking at performance of classification accuracy, sensitivity and specificity statistics. The obtained results show that KNN and SVM have better performance than the other algorithms and all utilized algorithms have high performance compared to the previous literature’s resultsConference Object The Determinants of Domestic and International Visitors' Online Hotel Booking(Elsevier Science Bv, 2012) Cezar, Asunur; Öğüt, HulisiWe investigate the possible differences between domestic and international visitors in terms of their online hotel booking behaviors. For our data set, we choose the most popular tourist destination in the world: Paris. We examine the influences of quality metrics (customer review volume and valance and star rating) and price on the proportion of online bookings originated domestically. We identify various specifications used in previous researches and test the models against our data set. We find that price and review volume are significant and negatively associated with the proportion of domestic online sales in all model specifications. The estimates of marginal effects across the various model specifications are mostly similar. While a ten percent increase in review volume decreases the proportion of domestic sales by about 0.2 percentage points, a ten percent increase in average room price decreases the proportion of domestic sales by about 1.9 percentage points. Neither star rating nor customer rating is statistically significant. (C) 2012 Published by Elsevier Ltd. Selection and/or peer-review under responsibility of the 8th International Strategic Management ConferenceConference Object Citation - Scopus: 1The Determinants of Online Hotel Reservation(2011) Öğüt, HulisiIn this paper, we identify the determinant of online hotel reservation using data from one of the biggest online hotel booking website. We find that online customer rating significantly affects the hotel reservation while the star rating does not increase popularity of the hotels. Furthermore, increase in prices leads to decrease in sales as we expected. Regression result allows us to quantify the relationship between these variables and online reservation as well. The managerial implication of these results is that hotels should strive to please customer as their future revenue depends on the satisfaction of past users. This study also guides hotel management to forecast their sales based on online rating and other features of hotel.Article Citation - Scopus: 9Do Domestic and International Customers Behave Alike in Online Hotel Booking?(California State University, Long Beach, 2014-10) Cezar, Asunur; Öğüt, HulisiThe aim of this research is to explore online hotel booking behaviors of domestic and international customers. We examine the impact of review rating (location rating and service rating), review volume and hotel characteristics on the proportion of online domestic bookings. Using data from London and Paris hotels, we evaluate a variety of models to explain fractional dependent variables. Our results show that price, review volume and location rating have a significant and negative impact while service and star rating have a significant and positive impact on the proportion of domestic bookings. However, the proportion of international bookings does not increase if the hotel belongs to a chain group. Moreover, domestic customers are more sensitive to changes in price and service rating whereas international customers are more responsive to changes in location rating. The results suggest that that domestic and international customers' online hotel booking behaviors show significant differences.Article Düzenlemelerde Kaliteyi Sağlamak Amacıyla Düzenleyici Rejimin Tasarlanması: Türk Düzenleyici Sisteminin Bir Değerlendirmesi(2007) Alp, Dursun Ali; Kılıç, SaimDüzenleme yapma, devletlerin sosyal ve ekonomik politika hedeflerini gerçekleştirmek için kullandıkları önemli araçlardan biridir. Vatandaşların hayatı ve işletmelerin faaliyetleri üzerindeki önemli etkisi nedeniyle, düzenlemeler konusu, siyasi tartışmaların ve ekonomik araştırmaların odağı haline gelmiştir. Literatürde, düzenlemelerin yapılma gerekçesine ilişkin olarak esas olarak üç genel teori bulunmaktadır: Kamu yararı teorisi (the public interest theory), Şikago düzenleme teorisi (the Chicago theory of regulation) ve kamu seçimi teorisi (the public choice theory). Article E-dönüşüm Işığında Çağdaş Muhasebeciden Beklenen Yetkinliklerin Muhasebe Eğitimi Kapsamında Tasarlanması(TÜRMOB, 2018) Balsarı, Çağnur; Sayar, A. R. Zafer; Dalkılıç, FatihFinancial information management subsumes processes and policies that convert, via special software, financial data into useful information/reports in accordance with accounting standards. In today’s world there is an increase in the number of transactions in terms of volume and a variety of forces effecting e-transformation. Professional competencies that an accountant should have are differentiated by this transformation. Accounting professionals nowadays should display competence in financial information management adjacent to competency in accounting theory. The fundamental aim of the current study is to determine the necessary competencies of accounting pro- fessionals and to discuss methods for incorporating these competencies under accounting education programs. In line with these aims, focus groups including: executives, accountants and auditors are organized and the out- comes of the group are analysed through the study. Competencies and skills discovered are discussed with the help of existing literature.Article Emotions in Business Organizations: an Empirical Study on Relation Between Emotions(PEOPLE: International Journal of Social Sciences, 2017-10) Ercil, Yavuz; Varoğlu, DemetThis paper aims to clarify the effects of emotions on organizational life based on the complex adaptive systems (CAS) approach and proposes a new frame for defining and examining emotions in organizations. In this frame, following the CAS approach, emotional interaction between drivers and attractors within organizations is shown. The proposed framework was tested by conducting a survey on a cross-sectional sample of 325 national and international, public and private sector employees. Free or passive word association was requested from the participants of the survey. The research study was designed and conducted in three stages. At the first stage, the emotional terms that are mostly used in business organizations were sought out. At the second stage, emotional associations were asked to participants. At the third stage, affects of these emotions were examined in terms of the CAS rules. The results indicate that emotions such as anger, fear, and sadness act as source emotions to other (result) emotions. Although there were no significant differences among people from different cultures in terms of how emotional concepts were defined, emotions changed with organizational characteristics.Article Citation - Scopus: 6Evaluation of Satisfaction With Over-The Weight Loss Supplements(2013) Kaplan, M. D.; Kasnakoğlu, B. T.; Yiğitbaşı, T.; Kaplan, Y. C.majority of studies on satisfaction with medication examine satisfaction with a prescribed pharmaceutical agent, while exploration of satisfaction with over-The-counter drugs is limited. This study aims to examine satisfaction with non-prescribed weight loss supplements and the factors that may affect satisfaction levels, such as overall body satisfaction. The participants in this study consisted of a convenience sample of 119 subjects who have either used weight loss supplement or are still using it at the time of enrollment. Results indicate that perceived effectiveness of weight loss supplement is the ultimate predictor of global satisfaction. Overall assessment of weight loss supplement revealed low satisfaction levels with regard to effectiveness and global satisfaction, while satisfaction with side-effects and convenience were relatively high. Body dissatisfaction was found to be significantly negatively correlated to satisfaction with effectiveness, side-effects and global satisfaction with weight loss supplement. Moreover, subjects with higher body dissatisfaction have a higher expectancy from weight loss supplement. © The Author(s) 2013.Article Citation - Scopus: 5Factors Affecting Professionals’ Selection in High and Low Value Online Service Procurements(Taylor & Francis, 2013-01) Öğüt, HulisiIn this paper, the aim is to determine the factors that lead to selection of freelancers in the procurement of professional service. The results reveal that higher bidder rating and higher number of bidder rating increases the likelihood of winning the auction while higher bid and higher delivery time of low-value project decreases the likelihood of winning the auction. Furthermore, higher rating, higher relative time of delivery and higher bid is more important for clients of low-value projects while higher number of rating is more important for clients of high-value projects. It is also found that higher bidder rating, higher number of bidder rating and higher relative time of delivery increases the winning bid amount while higher competition decreases it.Conference Object The Factors Affecting Writing Reviews in Hotel Websites(Elsevier Science Bv, 2012) Ögüt, Hulisi; Cezar, AsunurWe aim to understand the people's motivation for writing the reviews in order to better explain drivers of WOM activities in the online channel for the successful implementation of the hotel marketing. For this purpose, we choose one of the popular tourist destinations: Paris. We collect data for empirical analysis from one of the biggest online hotel reservation website. Our analysis reveals that higher rating and lower price increases the propensity to write reviews. However, while the extreme rating and star score and star rating does not have any effect on the propensity to write a review. We have also found the evidence for the negative effect of larger room size on the propensity to write a review. These results imply that satisfaction rather than dissatisfaction increases people's motivation more for writing reviews in hotel websites. We briefly discuss the managerial implications of results.
