Article Assessing the Impact of Terrorist Attacks on Sovereign Risk Perception: Evidence from Turkey's CDS Market(Prague Univ Economics And Business, 2024) Demirhan, Ecem; Tokat, Ekin; Tokat, Hakki ArdaThis study investigates the impact of terrorism on financial markets, focusing specifically on Turkey's sovereign Credit Default Swap (CDS) premiums from 2011 to 2017 - period characterized by frequent and diverse terrorist activities. Employing an EGARCH model with dummy variables for various terrorist groups, we analyze immediate and short-term market reactions across different event windows. Our findings reveal significant volatility in CDS premiums following terrorist incidents, with market responses varying depending on the terrorist group perpetrating the incident. This study enhances the understanding of capital market reactions on terrorist events through CDS instruments, highlighting their role in assessing sovereign credit and country risk.Article Citation - Scopus: 3Concept Mapping Sustainable Energy Management for a Holistic Approach To Energy Strategies(Inderscience Enterprises Ltd, 2016) Söğüt, M. Ziya; Uysal, Murat Paşa; Gazibey, Yavuz; Hepbaşlı, ArifOne of the important reasons for global warming and climate change is regarded as the improper management of fossil energy consumption. There may be various models or approaches to energy management (EM). However, strategic EM and its applications are still away from achieving their goals. In this regard, the main objectives of the present study are to design, develop and propose a knowledge framework primarily based on an EM concept map for a holistic EM. Aligned with the research purposes, a qualitative four-phase study was conducted, and the research question was formulated as: 'What would be the components and concepts required for the holistic EM?' The study also integrated systematic literature review (SLR) and focus group discussion (FGD) techniques. Initially, a list of the key EM concepts was formed and a preliminary concept map was constructed. Then, the final version of the concept map was achieved through several iterative revisions and FGDs. This concept map may be seen as a complementary and contributory tool for strategy development and decision-making processes in the EM knowledge domain. It is hoped that the study may extend the previous knowledge both by the tools it has utilised and approaches it has adopted for the holistic EMArticle Citation - Scopus: 3Concerns of Pregnant Women in Prenatal Screening/Diagnosis Practice and Termination of Pregnancy(Georg Thieme Verlag, 2020-06) Tarı Kasnakoğlu, Berna; Çakar, Mehmet; Ökem, Zeynep Güldem; Tanacan, Atakan; Fadıloğlu, Erdem; Örgül, Gökçen; Beksaç, Mehmet SinanObjective To investigate the reasons for decision-making and concerns of patients in the field of prenatal screening, invasive prenatal diagnostic testing (IPDT), and termination of pregnancy (TOP). Study Design This questionnaire-based study consisted of 107 pregnant women who were referred for prenatal screening to the Hacettepe University Hospital. The questionnaire given to patients was prepared from scratch since there is no standard set of questions measuring patients' feelings and concerns regarding prenatal screening/diagnosis, IPDT, and TOP. Results Our questionnaire results showed that it is possible to classify decision-making factors into 6 groups: psychological, social, fear, religious/faith, support, and trust. The majority of patients were undecided (48.6%) about IPDT if prenatal screening test results were risky. Only 23.4% of patients were willing to accept IPDT. On the other hand, 55.1% of patients were not willing to undergo TOP if the fetal karyotyping results were abnormal. Religious factors seem to be important in refusing IPDT and TOP. Conclusion Physicians should re-evaluate their practice in the field of prenatal screening and diagnosis in light of the high refusal rates of IPDT and TOP. Understanding factors influencing women's decision-making processes provides insight for service providers to help women at high risk of having foetal anomalies to make better-informed choices.Article Citation - Scopus: 12The Effect of Different Information Sources on the Anxiety Level of Pregnant Women Who Underwent Invasive Prenatal Testing(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2016) Çakar, Mehmet; Tarı Kasnakoğlu, Berna; Ökem, Zeynep Güldem; Okuducu, Ümmühan; Beksaç, Mehmet Sinan SinanObjective: The goal is to explore the effects of age, education, obstetric history and information sources on the (Beck) anxiety levels of pregnant women attending invasive prenatal testing. Methods: Questionnaire results from 152 pregnant women are utilized. Results are analyzed through an independent samples t-test and a two-step cluster analysis attempting to categorize patients in terms of the chosen variables. Results: t-Tests reveal that age, education and bad obstetric history do not significantly affect anxiety levels. Descriptive statistics indicate that almost 60% of patients feel anxious mostly because of the fear of receiving bad news, followed by the fear of miscarriage, the fear of pain and the fear of hurting the baby. According to the cluster analysis, patients who use doctors or nurses as information sources have significantly lower anxiety levels, while those who do not receive information from any source have the second lowest level of anxiety. Patients who receive information from personal sources (i.e. friends and family) have the highest level of anxiety. Anxiety levels do not change according to test type. Conclusions: Doctors and nurses should allocate enough time for providing information about prenatal diagnosis before the procedure. This will reduce the anxiety level as well as the felt necessity to search for information from other sources, such as personal or popular which will further increase the level of anxiety.Article Citation - Scopus: 17Estimating the Parameters of the Generalized Lambda Distribution: Which Method Performs Best?(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2016) Çorlu, Canan G.; Meterelliyoz Kuyzu, MelikeGeneralized lambda distribution (GLD) is a flexible distribution that can represent a wide variety of distributional shapes. This property of the GLD has made it very popular in simulation input modeling in recent years, and several fitting methods for estimating the parameters of the GLD have been proposed. Nevertheless, there appears to be a lack of insights about the performances of these fitting methods in estimating the parameters of the GLD for a variety of distributional shapes and input data. Our primary goal in this article is to compare the goodness-of-fits of the popular fitting methods in estimating the parameters of the GLD introduced in Freimer etal. (1988), i.e., Freimer-Mudholkar-Kollia-Lin (FMKL) GLD, and provide guidelines to the simulation practitioner about when to use each method. We further describe the use of the genetic algorithm for the FMKL GLD, and investigate the performances of the suggested methods in modeling the daily exchange rates of eight currencies.Article Types of Consumer Operant Resources and Co-Creation in Dialogical Service Relationships(Informs, 2022) Tarı Kasnakoğlu, Berna; Kalender, Yunus; Gokkaya, HaticeThis study investigates different types of operant resources and their effects on cocreation by considering the moderation effects of cocreation potential and the provider's positive attitude. The contextual nature of operant resources is discussed based on how consumers activate resources in different service situations. The first study explores whether context-specific resources contribute to cocreation more than general resources. This hypothesis is found to be valid only for certain service contexts. In-depth interviews are conducted in the second study to understand the phenomenon more deeply. The qualitative study reveals three distinct types of resources: general, context-specific, and interpersonal resources. In the third study, a scenario-based experimental study is conducted to test the hypotheses, which are confirmed. We conclude that context-specific resources more directly shape cocreation, moderated by perceived level of cocreation potential. The relationship between potential and resources is then moderated by the provider's positive attitude.Article Citation - Scopus: 3Understanding Hajj Travel: a Dynamic Identity Perspective(Routledge, 2022) Kalender, Y.; Tarı Kasnakoğlu, BernaThe present study brings an explanation for how tourist–pilgrims construct, deconstruct, and reconstruct their identities throughout the Hajj travel. The study focuses on the embodied, symbolic, and experiential aspects of this experience, creating idiosyncratic meanings for individuals. This travel is conceptualized as a religious endeavor and a consumptive-touristic activity at the same time, studied within a cultural context shaped by social, religious, and individual values, which is called the Consumer Culture Theory. This study also presents a new perspective by decomposing the pilgrim–tourist continuum and negating the opposite ends of pure tourists and pure pilgrims. Qualitative methodology is employed to provide a deeper understanding and a thicker explanation. In-depth interview data is collected from 38 individuals, in addition to findings gathered from prolonged observation of religious settings and several social media accounts. Findings draw attention to different groups of pilgrim–tourists, named as Mortals, Cleaners, Journalists, and Seekers. Findings also indicate that each individual can illustrate the characteristics of different groups, and that self-transformation can interactively occur among different groups of pilgrim–tourists. Identity appears as an ongoing project to be negotiated in the Hajj context, intertwined with the leisure aspect of this religious/touristic encounter. © 2021 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
