Abstract
Description
Yücel Ercan was born in Konya, Turkey in 1943. In 1961, he won
a higher-education scholarship from the Turkish Ministry of National
Education and went to the United States to study mechanical engineering.
He received his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He worked at MIT as a
research assistant and researcher. In 1971, he began working as a faculty
member at Middle East Technical University. At METU, he also served as
vice rector. Between 1979 and 1981, he conducted research in Germany
with a scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He was
promoted to professor in 1982. In the same year, he was appointed founding
dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at the newly
established Gazi University, a position he held until 1992. In 2005, he
joined TOBB University of Economics and Technology. At TOBB
University of Economics and Technology, he served in various
administrative roles including acting rector and vice rector and dean. He
retired in 2024. He currently continues to teach courses externally at the
same university. The author’s research interests include system dynamics,
automatic control, fluid power control, dynamics, modeling, and
simulation.
