Egypt has been ruled by the military administrations for a thousand years. Today, it seems that Egypt is living the same destiny. She could not attain any democratic political life and has suffered two military interventions in the last century. As a result of these interventions, the Egyptian Army had penetrated almost all areas of Egypt. Within this context, this thesis aims to understand the motivations behind the military interventions in 1952 and 2013 in Egypt by examining the historical process and to provide a new perspective for the future. The conclusion of this thesis is that the Egyptian army had economic and cultural motivations to intervene in the political process both in 1952 and 2013. But the main factor in military interventions is discordance between the army, political elite and citizenry, as proposed by the concordance theory, which is a civil military relations theory.en_US
